Matthew T. Lambert

Matthew T. Lambert is chief executive officer of the William & Mary Foundation and vice president for university advancement at William & Mary, where he oversees all efforts related to alumni engagement, private fundraising and philanthropic outreach, career engagement & professional development, and university marketing. Under Dr. Lambert's direction, the team's overarching goal is to create a lasting, robust culture of engagement and philanthropy and to ensure every student and every alum has a meaningful career and life. In the past decade, the team at W&M have secured the top spot in the nation among all public universities for both alumni participation and internships.

Separately, Lambert is also the co-founder and managing director of Extra Credit Ventures, which invests in founders and their start-ups led by exceptional sector-specific Venture Capital firms. ECV connects university faculty, entrepreneurship center directors, administrators, alumni, and friends who know these founders well and are never surprised by their ingenuity, hustle, and success. We're sector-agnostic and source deals nationwide, investing in founders working in the industries they plan to disrupt.

A graduate of William & Mary with a bachelor's degree in psychology and sociology, Lambert earned a master's degree from The Ohio State University, and a doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to returning to William & Mary in 2013, he led advancement teams during two campaigns at Georgetown University, where he also taught in the Walsh School of Foreign Service.

In addition to teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, he is active in public policy research and scholarship and is the author of the book "Privatization and the Public Good: Public Universities in the Balance" (Harvard Education Press, 2014) and co-editor of the book "Advancing Higher Education: New Strategies for Fundraising, Philanthropy, and Engagement" (Rowman & Littlefield, 2019).
