John S. McFarland embarked on his writing journey at the age of eight, attempting his first novel about Hercules. His teenage years were spent immersed in 19th-century horror, sci-fi, and adventure classics. During college, he discovered the works of literary giants such as Faulkner, James Joyce, and Flannery O'Connor. At 21, McFarland traveled to Europe with a play he co-authored, and subsequently, he began crafting poetry, short fiction, criticism, and humor. His foray into satire saw his first piece sold to The National Lampoon, and his inaugural short story was published in The Twilight Zone Magazine. McFarland’s work has been featured alongside Stephen King and H.P. Lovecraft in the anthology *A Treasury of American Horror Stories*. His debut novel, *The Black Garden*, received universal acclaim upon its release in 2010. Recently, his young reader novel about Bigfoot, *Annette: A Big, Hairy Mom*, was published by New Babel Books and is now available in Croatian and Slovenian.
