Bernd Arnold

Cologne-based Bernd Arnold has been working with the medium of photography since 1983. After studying photography, he worked for national and international magazines and newspapers, in corporate photography and on book and exhibition projects. The overarching focus, summarised in cycles, is a dissecting look at the phenomena of power and its rituals in democratic societies, which led in 2023 to the essay collection: ‘The World of New Images’ with the following question: What is photography actually and what is the essential difference to AI-generated images that constitutes this irreversible, epochal change?

Books: Wahl Kampf Ritual (2013), Das Kölner Heil (1997)

Exhibition participations: Bilderstrom - Der Rhein und die Fotografie 2016-1853 at the LVR-LandesMuseum Bonn (2016), Augen Auf! - 100 Jahre Leica at the Deichtorhallen Hamburg (2014), Macht und Ritual at the Stadtmuseum Köln (2006).
