Nisha Raman Patel was born in Buffalo, NY to Indian Immigrant Parents. She grew up in Buffalo, went to Tufts University for her undergraduate education and pursued a career in medicine. After completing medical school at St. George's University, Dr. Patel trained as an ophthalmologist at the Ross Eye Institute and completed a fellowship affiliated with the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. After settling in Northern Virginia, Dr. Patel proceeded to write a children's story dedicated to her first daughter, Avni. Her hope was to expose South Asian children to their roots, while still captivating them with a western story line. Her "east meets west" book, Princess Avni Gets Her Beauty Sleep, is tailored to children of all different ethnicities to promote diversification at a young age. All of her stories are based off of her children's personal experiences and battles in life...like trying to fall asleep! She is currently working on her second book, Prince Arya and his magic milk. She is also a full time ophthalmologist with two practices in Vienna and Centreville, VA where she sees patients for medical and surgical eye-related issues.
