He also enjoyed spending many an afternoon at the city's Dixie Water Treatment Plant where his father worked. At the age of twelve, Gary got his first horse, and his interest soon became focused on caring for and showing his horse(s) in and around south Florida at the local horse shows. After graduating from Fort Lauderdale High School in 1974, Gary followed in his father's footsteps, when he went to work for the City of Fort Lauderdale Utilities Division. Then in 1978, Gary moved to Ocala, Florida to the family's small horse farm.
