Glass Needles & Goose Quills (Haley's, 2017) is Lissa Kiernan's first book of prose. Described by Nicole Cooley as "a brilliant book of serving witness to the environmental catastrophes of our times," it serves as both a companion to the author's first book of poetry, Two Faint Lines in the Violet, as well as a primer for the poetics of social engagement. A braided essay punctuated by occasional poems, the fragmentation of its storylines intensifies its narrative thrust, revealing intersections in the literary, scientific, and medical arts.
Lissa Kiernan's first book of poetry, Two Faint Lines in the Violet (Negative Capability Press, 2014), is a Foreword Reviews' INDIEFAB Book of the Year Award Finalist, as well as a finalist for the Julie Suk Award for Best Poetry Book by an Independent Press. In it, Kiernan explores poetry's unique ability to document yet revision the nuclear age, how when singing somewhere between the personal and political--if we listen closely--we might hear the social.
Kiernan founded and directs Poetry Barn, a literary center in New York's Hudson Valley.
