Kenneth Stokes is a life-long Floridian. His childhood was spent in the rural part of the central east coast. It was a land of cattle ranches, citrus groves and strawberry farms, although his parents were not involved in any of those business enterprises. They did have a family garden and some farmyard animals. It was a creative environment where everyone made things and learned to be self-sufficient. Reading was a preferred way to pass the time. Observing the different ways authors expressed themselves encouraged Kenneth to try writing for himself. Although he planned a career in business, he began writing on a regular basis when he was in high school. He finished his first novel when he was twenty-four. He liked the way James Michener did lots of research to get the facts correct and bring authenticity to his stories. He noticed how Ayn Rand incorporated aspects of psychology and philosophy to her writing to give it more depth. From reading Dorothy Parker's short stories, he saw the importance of great dialog. He disliked when authors used lengthy and flowery descriptions. With those influences in place, the character of his writing was established. He wanted to do more than write entertaining stories, but to create literary works of depth and lasting value. Rather than write books that promote fantasy, the paranormal, and science fiction, which is the bulk of books published today, he focused on reality and rational thought. Thus, readers should expect a different experience than what is found in genre writing. There is a story line in each book, but also varying themes with insights as well as solutions for issues faced in today's world.
In his mid thirties, Kenneth established his own furniture manufacturing business, which he continues to manage to the present. He found many places to utilize his writing skills within the business world and now has completed four literary novels. He continues to write with several projects in preparation. His travels, interest in history and botany, and his keen observations of people and their lives are all evident in his novels.
