Author biographies are hard, because you want to quickly establish trust, but not come across as all hoity-toity. You also want to be viewed as not crazy or angry. So, here's my best shot: I'm Rayne Wolfe, a retired NYTimes newspaper reporter, who left daily reporting to write my first book, Toxic Mom Toolkit. Having grown up with three mothers -- two toxic -- and one wonderful, I was an expert on surviving and thriving. I figured, if I could capture and aggregate a range of stories about what it's like to grow up with a super toxic mother I might save readers time and agony and help them focus on establishing happy and peaceful lives. My book includes my memoir of growing up with a terrible mother, finding an even worse birth mother, and in my teens, being saved by my wonderful step-mother. The book also includes stories from women all over the world, self-tests, tools, and resources. Toxic Mom Toolkit is a book, a Facebook global support community, a blog at ToxicMomToolkit.com and a resource for anyone struggling with a toxic mom or relative. Of course, toxic people are everywhere and this book could be helpful if you have a toxic boss, neighbor, colleague or friend. So, if you think this is one of those books written by five strangers in a publishing house as a quickie project, trust me, it's just me, Rayne Wolfe, at my kitchen table in Petaluma, California doing my very best to be helpful on this topic.
