Stefani Ruper

Stefani Ruper is a philosopher and public thinker whose work focuses on how complex ideas move into public life—and how our relationship to truth shapes democratic culture.

She holds a PhD from the University of Oxford, where she studied how we form beliefs and allegiances, and has conducted research at Harvard Business School on organizational culture, trust, and public communication. Her scholarly work has appeared in Zygon: Journal of Religion and Science, Method and Theory in the Study of Religion, and the Harvard Business Review.

In The Certainty Cure, Ruper argues that it is not stronger conviction but greater intellectual humility—and a willingness to release certainty—that offers a path forward for democratic life in an age of polarization.

Alongside her academic work, she has spent more than a decade helping complex ideas move into public life through writing, editorial leadership, and public-facing communication—working with scholars, leaders, and institutions to translate values-laden ideas with care and judgment.

She lives in North Carolina, where she works in communications helping complex ideas move into public discourse, and builds initiatives dedicated to strengthening trust, dialogue, and civic life.
