Meet The Author Q & A

What made you decide to write a children's book?

Perhaps it is because I am a grandmother and have two grandchildren of my own now. They really inspired me. I imagined writing a book that would make them laugh as I read it to them. Therefore, it was important to me to create characters that spurred the imagination and would lend themselves to some fun animation and vocal theatrics.

What surprised you most about the emails you have received from readers of The Hungriest Dragon: A Tale of Food and Friendship?

I was really touched by those who wrote to me and commented on the preface of the book where I shared how deeply my grandmother influenced my life by reading to me when I was young. Those memories hold a very tender place in my heart even today and that experience seems to resonate with my readers as well. Several of them told me that the preface brought them to tears. I was delighted to learn that The Hungriest Dragon provides an extra perk by encouraging kids to eat vegetables.

What was your favorite book as a child?

I love Little Red Riding Hood the most of all, even though it scared the dickens out of me! I think it was the way my Grandmother read it, so full of voice characterization, exaggerated facial expressions, and grand sweeping gestures. It was obvious she had fun reading that book to me and enjoyed my giggles amidst the firm clutching of her arm.
