Leni Hurley

I write in two languages, English and Dutch. In 1973, I married an Irish man, which meant that I moved from The Netherlands to Ireland. My writing career began in Ireland with articles for the magazine Technology Ireland, an Irish government publication. My subject was Renewable Energy Technologies.

In the 1990s, I joined a poetry writing group and published poems in my local newspaper, the “Skerries News.” I did this under my Irish pen name at the time: Deora Dé (literal translation: The Tears of God. Deora Dé is the Irish name for the Fuchsia, which grew everywhere at the time. To me it means: “Tears of Joy and Sorrow.”)

In 2000, I returned to the Netherlands and studied Traditional Chinese Medicine. I specialised in Nutrition. After that study, I wrote a book: Mindful Nutrition, How to Make The Most of a Whole Foods Diet. I self-published this book on Amazon under the name Leni Hurley.

Meanwhile, I wrote articles for a regional door-to-door publication in the province of Brabant, De Uitstraling. I also wrote articles for my local newspaper, the 'Oirschots Weekjournaal'. My focus was on the management of green spaces, stench (mainly from the intensive pig-breeding industry in the area - the stench is now less dominant), and noise pollution. I publish these articles under my maiden name, Leni Crefeld.

After the publication of *Mindful Nutrition*, I published a series of English-language children's books under the collective name *The Cat Series*, namely *Playalore*, *The Return of the Sun*, *To the South Side*, and *The Barrel Dogs*. These books too were published under the name Leni Hurley.

In 2026, I published a number of my English-language poems in *Poetry and Art*. In addition to the poems, this booklet contains drawings and photographs by, among others, two of my granddaughters.

In recent years, I have been working on five Dutch-language children's and youth books. These books appear under my Irish and Dutch names: Leni Hurley-Crefeld. *De Gevleugelde Vloek* is the first publication in this Dutch-language writing period.
