Amy McVay Abbott tackles the story of a Prussian immigrant family in "Centennial Farm Family: Cultivating Land and Community 1837-1937." Based on her grandmother's stories, documents, books, pictures, and letters, Abbott takes readers from a Virginia plantation to log cabins in northeastern Indiana. The Long family struggled to keep their legacy farm, fighting unexpected accidents, fires, financial struggles, and even accidental poisoning.
Abbott has written multiple books and featured in four anthologies, including the 2022 "The Magic of Christmas" by Chicken Soup for the Soul. In 2022, her writing was also recognized by the Indiana Genealogical Society with the Elaine Spires Smith Family History Writing Award.
Abbott writes a bi-weekly column for her hometown newspaper and commentary for several urban newspapers. She is a contributor to Next Avenue. She's written for multiple print and online venues, including Scary Mommy, Grown and Flown, Vitamin ZZZZ, Humor Outcasts, Sammiches and Psych Meds, Pulse: Voices from the Heart of Medicine, and dozens of Indiana newspapers. She wrote the syndicated columns "The Raven Lunatic" and "A Healthy Way" for Senior Wire News Service for four years, featured in newspapers in the U.S. and Canada.
