By day, my kindergarten students call me Mrs. Huntington. By night, I'm known as The Renegade Seamstress and I have a secret...
I am a thriftaholic.
There, I said it. Bet I'm not alone though. You know that rush you feel when you walk through the doors of a thrift shop. The exhilaration of just thinking about all the possibilities, the treasures, and the deals! Necessity used to take me to second hand stores, but now I go for the pure pleasure of it all. It's exciting to find an outdated, ill fitting piece of clothing, take it home and redesign it into something more modern and wearable. The transformations still amaze me. Maybe we should call it a passion and not an addiction. Yes, I like that much better, don't you?
A few years ago, on a whim, I picked up my little camera, started taking pictures of my step by step refashion process and began a blog called, The Renegade Seamstress. Who knew how much fun I would have, all the great people I would meet and the opportunities it would bring my way. I love sharing little glimpses into my world. I love connecting with nice people from all over the world. I love taking the photos, styling the photos, editing the photos and writing stories. Pretty much everything about blogging rolls my socks up and down. But most of all, I love encouraging and inspiring people like you to pick up your scissors, grab your seam ripper, dust off your sewing machine and create your own designs from old clothes.
My book, "The Refashion Handbook: Refit, Redesign, Remake for Every Body" is a natural extension of The Renegade Seamstress. Using common thrift store clothes (or clothes from the dark recesses of your closet) I show you how to redesign them into something you will love and want to wear everyday. Whether you're a beginning sewist who wants to learn how to sew or a seasoned seamstress who wants to try something new, you'll find projects in this book just for you. I hope you enjoy reading and using it as much as I enjoyed writing it for you.
Thanks for visiting!
