Simone Battiston

Simone Battiston teaches politics and history at Swinburne University of Technology. His research examines different aspects of postwar Italian emigration, with a particular attention to the Australian context: external voting behaviour, history and memory of radical migrants, migrant media history and history of workers and entrepreneurs in the building and construction industry, especially terrazzo and mosaic artisans. His publications include the monograph, Immigrants Turned Activists: Italians in 1970s Melbourne (Troubador Publishing, 2012) and the edited books Il Globo: Fifty Years of an Italian Newspaper in Australia (with Bruno Mascitelli, Connon Court Publishing, 2009) and Autopsia di un diritto politico: il voto degli italiani all’estero nelle elezioni del 2018 (with Stefano Luconi, Accademia University Press, 2018). Simone is the recipient of the 2001 Honours Thesis Award (Friuli-Venetia Julia Regional Government) and the 2007 PhD Thesis Award, Giovanni Agnelli Foundation-Altreitalie Research Centre. At Swinburne, he is the Course Director of the Bachelor of Arts.
