Genie Nakano

Genie Nakano was born in East Los Angeles, California on May 15, 1948. She is a dancer/performer, poet/storyteller, and yoga teacher. She received her master's in Dance from UCLA. For Genie, writing poetry, especially tanka, is like crying, laughing, hating, loving -- other moments it's like taking a deep breath and letting it flow. Tanka is her way to unravel and appreciate life. It is her personal story and journey inward. She is featured internationally in many journals, International Tanka (Japan), Blithe Spirit (United Kingdom), and Ribbons, and Spillwords (United States) Atlas Poetica (United States), Close to the wind, 2013, Fire in the Tree Tops, 2015. She was a journalist for Rafu Shimpo and Gardena Valley News for 15 years. She lives in Gardena with her husband Hideki and two dogs, Bodhi and Yuzo.
