Carolina Dean

Carolina Dean is a Witch, a Rootworker, a Two-Headed Doctor, a Magical Craftsman, and a Gifted Reader Born in the Deep South, he considers himself lucky to have been surrounded by the magic of nature and spent many days climbing trees, catching garden snakes, and exploring the woods where kudzu threatened to conquer the South. As a child, his mother took him to a faith-healer who lived on the back roads leading out of town to "talk off" the warts which had appeared on his hand. He vividly remembers the healer performing her ritual over him after which he developed a deep interest in magic and the supernatural.

As a teenager, he was drawn to the tarot and taught himself to read the cards. It was through the tarot that he discovered Wicca and began his spiritual journey of self-empowerment and self-discovery. After many years studying and living as a practicing Wiccan, his attention and interest circled back around to the folk-magic practices, known as Hoodoo, prevalent in the South and which was rarely spoken of. In 2003 he undertook a study on the theory and practice of Hoodoo becoming a practitioner himself and eventually became a respected contributor to several websites and forums related to these beliefs and practices.

He is the co-author of the Hoodoo Almanac, as well as Assistant Editor and a frequent contributor to Hoodoo and Conjure Magazine. In addition he has contributed articles to several issues of Gumbo Ya Ya Magazine and other published works.

Carolina Dean currently resides on a small island in the Pacific Northwest where he writes a popular blog in which he shares his adventures living a magical life. In his free time he enjoys, reading, writing, exploring used book stores and thrift shops as well as collecting tarot card decks. He hopes to one day possess the One Ring.
