I'm a retired physician working on my right brain function by writing fiction. Not Born Here, my first book, is a collection of short stories about familiar characters, their lives and challenges in a small southern town of Marsden, N.C. According to one reviewer, Not Born Here is a witty, colorful preservation of local flavor, uniqueness and language spun by an accomplished storyteller.
Humor is difficult to capture in fiction, but I wanted this book to have a good dose of humor; the ability to look at ourselves and our unique ways of handling a situation. You'll read about love found, love lost, and love hoped for, as well as a couple's ways of learning new things about their partners, some legends of Marsden, and other upbeat and positive experiences shared by the people of Marsden.
My second book, Almost Southern, continues the Marsden stories with new characters facing new challenges. They work their way through the everyone's challenges from retirement to dealing with spouses, house fires and con men. Their touching emotional experiences are told with a humor and tone that is uniquely southern.
