Michael Kawitzky

Journey to Everywhere chronicles the adventures of an ex-suit on his visionary quest to remake himself and produce a movie about consciousness.

The book's author is cyberpunk, cybershaman, media maker and traveler Mike Kawitzky. Responsible for creating the film Cognition Factor (2009) and The Terence McKenna Omnibus 2012 web series, Mike has represented South African counterculture internationally since the early '90s. He is credited with creating the memes 'cybershaman' and 'webtrance' in the course of his many media excursions. Escaping from his early career as an executive in the South African rag trade he became a freewheeling columnist, commenting on the evolution of 'net consciousness from a uniquely South African perspective.

A pioneer of internet culture since its inception, Mike evolved an alter-ego known as Schwann, who in Journey to Everywhere takes readers on a rollicking ride through science, psychedelia and cyberculture to meet with some of the most fascinating thinkers of our time.

The author works from the attic of an old Victorian house in a leafy suburb of Cape Town from which he sometimes emerges to ride his motorbike into the desert. He enjoys flying a spaceship in a computer game called Elite Dangerous but he doesn't like flying in jetliners.
