Timothy O'Neill

Timothy R. O'Neill served in the United States Army for 26 years, and onthe faculty at West Point for fifteen. At the US Military Academy, he was director ofthe engineering psychology program. Since his retirement from the Army, he has served as a business executive, trained foreign special operations units, and as a defense consultant. He is the author of The Individuated Hobbit: Jung, Tolkien, and the Archetypes of Middle-earth (Houghton Mifflin, 1979), the novel Shades of Gray (Viking Penguin, 1987; Publish Green, 2013) and many articles and monographs on scientific and military topics, as well as Jungian depth psychology.

He is a graduate of The Citadel, the University of North Carolina, the University of Virginia, and the Armed Forces Staff College, and is a recognized expert on the application of human visual processes to rthe design of camouflage.

He lives in Alexandria, Virginia.
