Deborah Hurley

Deborah Hurley was born and raised on Eastern Long Island. She danced tap, ballet and jazz throughout her life and often dreamt of becoming a New York City Rockette. Deborah's passions growing up included writing, dancing, drawing and painting. Although she had a strong flair for the arts, her very first love was writing poetry. Deborah studied English at the University of Albany and firmly believed she would author a book someday. With much determination, Deborah's dream became a reality and in 2006 her first book, Fragments of Hope was published. Fragments of Hope is filled with heartfelt poems and intimate experiences of her struggle with an austere severe depression. In February 2012 Deborah underwent Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation hoping to gain relief from her illness. Deborah credits TMS with saving her life and since her treatment she has been 100% depression and anxiety free the entire time. Deborah and her husband reside on Long Island with their two children who are currently off attending college. She is a co-author of A Book Is Born, in where 24 authors share the nitty-gritty of each step of the publishing journey. If you asked Deborah who has been an inspiration to her, she would without hesitation say Maya Angelou. Maya's poems and words have always provided her with tremendous hope and strength. Today you can find Deborah writing, attending her children's college lacrosse games and enjoying her serenity with her husband.
