Steven C. Ames

Steven C. Ames is from the small rural Iowa town of Baxter, where growing up was an unforgettable experience . There were three TV stations, party line phones and very few trips to the cinema. One hundred children made up the entire high school grades 9 - 12. The fun they had was created by the kids themselves. Doors were never locked and there was no police department because crime was non existent. Steven owes much of his creativity to that oasis among the corn fields. Baxter taught him much about love, life and responsibility. It was and still is a very special place.

Steven attended college in Missouri where he met Debbie, his wife of forty one years. After living in Tampa, Florida for over twenty five years, they now reside in the heart of the Tennessee River Valley. Located in Northwest Alabama it is an area called the Shoals. A rich music history lies there and it reaches back to the days of segregation. W C Handy and Sam Phillips are natives of the area as are the Swampers who are know for their legendary Muscle Shoals Sound. There black and white artists pushed aside the racial divide and merged their talents into some of the most memorable rock, soul and blues music ever recorded.

There is a strong connection not only with popular American music but with literature, art, film and design. Culture runs deep in that river community and if you ever visit for one of the many festivals held there you won't want to leave. It has inspired him to write about life, love and adventure that is tailored to today's readers. Steven believes riveting short stories and novels that can be read given the time constraints of our work, families and everyday life are an important contribution to the literary world.
