Samuel Michael Lemon Ed.D.

Samuel Michael Lemon, Ed.D., earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature at St. Joseph's University, a Master of Science in Instructional Media at West Chester University, and a Doctorate in Education at the University of Pennsylvania. In addition to his family's strong oral history and cultural traditions, his doctoral dissertation -- "The Construction of Ethnoracial Identity within Situational Contexts" (2007, Upenn/UMI)-- served as the foundation for his novel. Sam felt it was important that the novel rest on solid academic, historical, and genealogical research.

He is currently an assistant professor and the director of a graduate program at a suburban Philadelphia university. Prior to his academic career, he worked in the field of social services and child welfare, and later in community education at WHYY, Inc., Philadelphia's public television station. Sam has written on a variety of subjects including Native American history and culture, African American history and culture, belief systems, genealogy, animal intelligence, and current events. He is a Quaker, and a member of the Brandywine Valley Writers Group, the Caribbean Genealogy Library, and the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. He is currently at work on the novel's exciting sequel.
