Aleksandr Bogdanov

More than thirty years ago I escaped from Russia. There are three versions of my defection and all are equally credible. Recently I wrote a novel that was based on actual happening telling about foiled attempt of nuclear attack on the USA.

The security at many of Russia’s nuclear facilities remains insufficient to withstand an infiltration by a terrorist group. The likelihood of a nuclear terrorist attack by Islamic militants is growing. Such an attack could be unleashed against Russia as well as the USA.

In my novel I described the events that took place in Siberia ten years ago.

In 2002, al Qaeda operatives approach Mikhail Belov, an unemployed major of Soviet Rocket Forces, to purchase a nuclear warhead, and American and Russian intelligence agencies are immediately alerted. Together, these two great powers set up a covert operation to infiltrate al Qaeda. Osama bin Laden, having big plans to use the destructive power of plutonium, takes the bait. It will be his coup de grāce after the attack on the USA on 9/11/2001.

Decades after my defection I still retain my old Russian connections. From the words of former secret agents, double agents, and defectors, the mosaic of the events of the recent past were restored and presented to the English-speaking world in the form of my novel, When al Qaeda Launched the Nuke. The descriptions of Siberia and Soviet military installations are firsthand. I toiled in the taiga forest in my younger years—along with other Soviet Army draftees—constructing the missile silos intended for nuclear strike against the USA. I have maintained current knowledge of post-Soviet Russia and its complex and worrisome connections with Middle East governments and terrorists. A stay in Karachi broadened my knowledge of this unstable and critical part of the world.

I have high hopes that you enjoy my book.
