From a large Catholic musical family, Julia studied French, Music and English at A-level, in a girls' grammar school in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, north-east England. She ventured far south... to Manchester University, where she took a degree in French with Drama.

Although acting was her first love, she trained to be a French, English and Drama teacher and years later, a teacher of the deaf. She taught in Manchester and London.

As well as teaching, Julia has been (is??) an actor, piano teacher and now writer and teacher. She worked as a journalist before writing a play, 'Touched', for Edinburgh Fringe Festival, in which she acted two roles, and which gained 5* reviews. Her second novel, 'Blue Rain' has just been published (May 2021); it is a sequel to the debut novel, 'If Everyone Knew Every Plant And Tree'.

Julia has lived in twenty-one different places, including Philly and LA, and currently lives in Cornwall, England. Apart from writing and teaching, she loves a spot of singing and has recently started her own choir called 'The Choir Brigade'!
