Michael Fink was born an identical twin outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the late 70s. After watching his twin brother, Mark, battle cancer on and off from age 11 (a fight that eventually took Mark's life at age 17), Mike chose to pursue a career in physical therapy. Mike joined the Air Force upon graduation from Thomas Jefferson University and in 2003 had the distinction of being the most forward deployed Air Force physical therapist during OEF/OIF. He was embedded with an international Special Forces unit and received the Outstanding Unit Award with Valor. His combat performance earned him an elite spot in a Post-professional Sports Medicine Physical Therapy Residency at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. In 2005 after earning his doctoral degree from Baylor University, Dr. (Major) Fink went on to become the Officer in Charge of the Cadet Physical Therapy Clinic at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In 2009, after almost 10 years of service, Major Fink departed the military to become a physical therapy professor at Lebanon Valley College in central Pennsylvania. Dr. Fink is board certified in both Sports and Orthopaedic physical therapy and in 2013 he received awards for leadership and achievement by Thomas Jefferson University and the Pennsylvania Physical Therapy Association, respectively.
Dr. Fink and his wife have three small children, the oldest of which was the inspiration for this book. His youngest child was born in 2012 with a diagnosis of Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita (AMC) affecting all four limbs. This book took on new meaning for Dr. Fink as he is not only a physical therapist by profession, but now the father of a child requiring weekly physical therapy. Dr. Fink dedicates this, his first children's book, to all physical therapy patients past, present, and future. Enjoy learning about the great things physical therapists do on a daily basis!
