Andrew Layton is a fresh voice in the genres of motorsports biography and auto racing history. A life-long motor racing enthusiast whose passion and respect for the subject show clearly in his work, he has collaborated with some of the most experienced names in motorsports publishing. Layton's latest book, "Press On Regardless: The Story of America's Oldest, Longest, and Meanest Road Rally" (2019), was preceded by "Professor Speed: Danny McKeever and the Mind Game of Going Fast" (2017), co-authored with late automotive journalist Tom Madigan and named motorsports book of the year for 2017 by the American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association. Layton's 2015 release, "Ray Crawford - Speed Merchant," was similarly produced under the mentorship of legendary racing photographer and publisher Dick Wallen.
Layton is also the author of three books on military topics. In 2010, his writing was recognized with the Michigan Aviation Hall of Fame's Harriet Quimby Award for literary excellence. He is himself a competitive rally driver with the American Rally Association and Sports Car Club of America, with experience in events such as the Lake Superior Performance Rally, the Sno*Drift Rally, and the Press On Regardless Rally. Layton is also a career officer in the Michigan Air National Guard and has served overseas in the Middle East, Europe, and West Africa.
Layton's company, Revolution Press, currently has three books in development: the first full-length biography of Lance Reventlow, creator of the all-American Scarab F1 racing team; a study of U.S. Air Force Gen. Curtis LeMay's involvement with motorsports during the 1950s; and a complete history of the Sno*Drift Rally, America's only true winter rally race.
