Thomas Frick

**Thomas Frick** (born 1962 in Rostock) is a German author, director, journalist, and environmental activist. In his more recent works, he primarily focuses on the future of artificial intelligence (AI), space exploration, and ecological issues.

**Science Fiction and Literature**

As a writer, Thomas Frick has published regularly in well-known magazines such as *c't* as well as *Perry Rhodan*. In his short story collections, including "KI wie du und ich" and "Abgespaced 1 & 2", the focus is often not on technical aspects, but rather on the "humanity" of the digital – such as the question of what happens when an AI develops feelings.

A list of his awards can be found on Wikipedia. For excursions into darker genres like horror and space opera, he previously used the pseudonym *Tomb de Freak*. In addition to science fiction, he has written travelogues. He received the P.M. Literature Prize for his work "Die perfekte Insel" (The Perfect Island).

**Film and Television**

Prior to and alongside his writing career, Frick established himself as an internationally award-winning filmmaker. In the 1980s, as a nonconformist underground filmmaker, he came into conflict with the GDR state security (Stasi), but was eventually able to study directing at the film school in Babelsberg with the support of renowned DEFA directors.

His multi-award-winning diploma film *Der unbekannte Deserteur* (The Unknown Deserter) was made under the mentorship of Roland Emmerich. He later directed TV series such as *Gute Zeiten – Schlechte Zeiten* and *Alphateam*, and in 2002 he directed the theatrical feature film *Planet B – Detective Lovelorn und die Rache des Pharao* starring Horst Buchholz in his final leading cinema role.

**Sustainability and Commitment**

Another central concern of his is climate protection. The trained nurse is co-founder and vice-chairman of the international NGO "youthinkgreen" and serves officially as a climate ambassador. His commitment is also reflected in book projects, for example as co-author of the award-winning sustainability and media handbook "Tree of Hope".

Today, Thomas Frick lives and works in Potsdam-Babelsberg. He is the deputy chairman of the Literatur-Kollegium Brandenburg and is currently dedicating himself to new novel projects in which he combines science fiction elements with pressing environmental issues.
