Paul Franklin has loved roadtrips since age twelve, when he rigged up a bicycle for overnight camping and headed out to explore the backroads of upstate New York.

Now a veteran travel photographer and writer, and often working with his wife and partner, Nancy Mikula, he has authored, co-authored and/or photographed 16 travel guidebooks, including The Barnes and Noble Complete Guide to the Public Parks and Gardens of Washington D.C., Our Washington (Voyageur Press), the AAA Spiral Guide to Washington D.C. and numerous DK Eyewitness and Top Ten Travel Guides including The DK Eyewitness Travel Guide to Canada and The DK Eyewitness Travel Guide to the Southwest USA, as well as The Top 10 Guide to San Antonio and The Top 10 Guide to Mexico City.

He has also participated in several recent large-format travel anthologies including National Geographic’s 500 Journeys of a Lifetime, The World’s Greatest Trips, and DK’s Where to Go When: Best Destinations All Year ’Round .

He authored and photographed The DK Eyewitness Travel Family Guide to Washington D.C., which won the British Travel Press Award for Best Travel Guidebook of 2012. He is a member the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW).

Author Nancy Mikula has a deep passion for travel and exploring along backroads

to discover less-known and fascinating places.

She is the author of three books in the award-winning DK Top 10 Travel Guide series: The Top 10 Guide to Santa Fe and Taos, The Top 10 Guide to San Antonio, and The Top 10 Guide to Mexico City.

She has co-authored numerous books, including The Eyewitness Travel Guide to Arizona and the Grand Canyon, Voyageur Press’ Backroads of South Carolina and South Carolina’s Plantations and Historic Homes. She has also contributed to numerous guidebooks published by AAA, DK and Fodor’s.

She has written numerous articles in large format travel anthologies, including National Geographic’s Journeys of a Lifetime: 500 of The World’s Greatest Trips; Sacred Places of a Lifetime: 500 of the World’s Most Peaceful and Powerful Destinations; Secret Journeys of a Lifetime: 500 of the World’s Best Hidden Travel Gems and DK Eyewitness Travel Where To Go When; and Eyewitness Travel The Americas Where To Go When North, Central, South America and The Caribbean. She is a member of the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW).
