James Barnet was born on 9 August 1986 and grew up in the New Forest, Hampshire (England). He became interested in geology from an early age after finding the 50 million year old shells of marine organisms and shark's teeth in a deeply cut riverbed near his home. James subsequently graduated from the University of Southampton in 2008 with a First Class Master's Degree in Geology, before working for 6 years for an oil & gas consultancy company based in Oxfordshire. In September 2014, he commenced a PhD at the University of Exeter (Cornwall campus), studying past greenhouse climates on Earth which may represent analogues for anthropogenic climate change. James graduated with a PhD in Geology in December 2018 and plans to move to Edinburgh in March 2019.
James climbed his first Munro (Schiehallion) in August 2001 and became hooked on the Munros in the Nevis and Mamore ranges around Fort William since 2004, returning at least once a year to climb these magnificent mountains. This book represents James' first book and assimilates over 10 years of walking experience in these mountains, combining his extensive knowledge of the geology of the area with his interest in meteorology, digital photography, mountaineering and creative writing. James plans to release a second edition of this book in 2020, before tackling a second book on a neighbouring part of Highland Scotland.
