Wendy Brown-Baez

Wendy Brown-Báez is an award-winning writer, teacher, performance poet and installation artist. Her book "Heart on the Page: A Portable Writing Workshop" is an inspirational guidebook for writers and writing instructors, distilling Wendy's many years of facilitating creative writing and writing for healing workshops in community spaces.

Her novel "Catch a Dream" is the story of a woman's journey to healing that begins in the country of Israel, a nation embroiled in relentless conflict. The 1988 Palestinian Uprising has just begun and Lily Ambrosia falls in love with the country, with its people and with mysterious but irresistible Levi. Will she be able to stay?

Wendy’s prose and poetry have appeared in numerous literary journals and anthologies, such as Borderlands, The Litchfield Review, Lavanderia, Mizna, Minnetonka Review, The Chrysalis Reader, Wising Up Press, We-Moon datebooks, Saint Paul Almanac, Survive & Thrive, 200 New Mexico poems, The Heart of All that Is, Water~Stone Review, Peregrine, and on-line journals Interfaithings.org, The Compassion Anthology, Feminine Collective and Talking Writing. She has published two poetry books: Ceremonies of the Spirit and transparencies of light. Her article Why We Write appeared in Poets & Writers 2014 July/August issue. Her creative non-fiction essay Pilgrimage won 2016 National Women's Book Association contest and she won the 2017 grand prize for her poem Gitano from the League of Minnesota Poets.

Wendy received McKnight and Minnesota State Arts board grants to teach writing workshops in non-profit organizations. She is a member of the Mn Prison Writing Workshop and teaches creative writing in state prisons. She facilitates writing circles for healing at Pathways: A Healing Center and at NE Wellness. She teaches writing workshops in community spaces such as schools, cafes, churches, women's retreats, and writer's festivals.

Her current projects include a memoir of communal living, a novel that focuses on a group of inter-generational women who live together, a collection of essays called "Unlikely Predicaments", a collection of meditations, essays, and prose poems on the topic of dying and grief called "We Need to Talk About This", and a guide book for creatives called "Spiritual Practices to Deepen Creativity."
