Alex Samuel Velez

Alex Samuel Vélez is an accomplished author, educator, and cultural advocate with over 25 years of experience in the literary and academic fields. He has authored several books, including Crema, sudor y vino tinto (2008), Resuellos (2010), Leticia por quinta vez (2011), and the hybrid book Enantes (2024), which integrates literature with traditional Puerto Rican music.

In addition to his literary contributions, Vélez has made significant strides in promoting arts and culture. He reopened and served as the director of El Poeta, a newspaper dedicated to the arts, culture, and literature, which was also the official newspaper of the Festival de la Palabra in Puerto Rico in 2009. As an editor at Editorial Tres iii, a publishing house under Empresas Ramallo in 2008, he further cemented his influence in the literary community.

As part of the presentations for Crema, sudor y vino tinto, Vélez founded Colectivo de la Crema, a group of visual arts professionals, including painters and photographers, that brought together diverse talents to celebrate the intersection of literature and visual arts. His work continues to inspire and enrich the cultural fabric of Puerto Rico and beyond.
