D. K. Segraves

Deborah Segraves worked in B2B sales for many years. The assets developed in her career--friendliness and approachability--now help others, regardless of age, to find the solutions they need for personal success. She chose the fiction setting of the Beacon of Light books, Eagle's Watch and Awakening to make learning essential life skills entertaining. Her goal is to see more children experiencing stability and lasting joy, even if the situation around them could be better.

Segraves is the mother of three and grandmother of seven. Her oldest grandson joined the Marine Corp this year. Her oldest granddaughter, 14, refuses to tell Grandma what character she enjoyed the most. She just says she enjoyed both Eagle's Watch and Awakening. Her 9-year old granddaughter hasn't been shy about sharing the books with her neighborhood friend.

Segraves has lived most of her life in the Pacific Northwest. The rich vegetation and wildlife of this area and travels with her late husband to the Olympic Peninsula and Orcus Island inspired the setting for the Beacon of Light books. The characters themselves participate in a story where the struggle every person faces to find self-worth comes to life. Amidst this setting, Segraves weaves life lessons she has personally found invaluable.

In addition to her love of children, Segraves is passionate about helping women in transition from negative situations. You'll find her every week ministering at a Vancouver, Wash. transition house. She also opens her home each week for a time of fellowship and empowerment founded on biblical principles.

In what remains of her time, Segraves enjoys gardening--and working on her next book. Between walks with her dog, Nike, time spent in her greenhouse trying out new discoveries in heirloom plants and phone calls with her writing coach, Segraves stays as active as many women half her age.
