Barbara Gleason

Barbara Gleason is Professor of English and Director of the MA in Language and Literacy at The City College of New York (CCNY), CUNY. Barbara has also administered the composition program and co-directed a FIPSE grant-funded pilot project in mainstreaming basic writers at CCNY. While teaching undergraduates at the CCNY Center for Worker Education, Barbara established a writing center and contributed to the CWE Life Experience Program.

Barbara is a member of the Teaching English in the Two-Year College Northeast Regional Executive Committee and of the Council of Basic Writing Executive Committee. She has guest-edited a Basic Writing e-Journal special issue on multimodal composing and served as BWe Editor. Barbara's publications include book chapters and journal articles on writing curricula, writing program evaluation, basic writing, graduate education, and phenomenology. She has published four co-edited/co-authored books: Cultural Tapestry: Readings for a Pluralistic Society (with Faun Bernbach Evans and Mark Wiley), Composition in Four Keys: Inquiry into the Field (with Mark Wiley and Louise Wetherbee Phelps), The Bedford Bibliography for Teachers of Adult Learners (with Kimme Nuckles), and Basic Writing in the 21st Century (with Laura Gray-Rosendale, Peter Lang, 2026).
