Dejan Jovanovic

Dejan Jovanovic is a new Serbian writer. Born in July 29th 1977. in Smederevska Palanka, a small city, some 80 km southern of Belgrade, he grew up in Golobok, nearby village. Impressions of pastoral scenes from his childhood, provincial language, and old scary legends are offtenly takeing a special place in his writeing.

Well educated, after changeing many jobs and adresses, he returns to his home village. Thanks to unusual life experience, people that he met, and events he witnessed, became profounded in his work. Descovering many dimensions of words, listening to them, feelling their fluidity, playing, loughing and foolling around with them, he brings many narative inovations.

Dejan's first book, "Stories from the Getho" (Priče iz Geta), a novel in a mozaicon form, with a lot of language experiments, word plays, slang, archaisms and provincialisms, unicly charmonised with current litteral language, appears to be a great challenge for translators, and astonishing artistic document about "a world that public knows nothing about, and does not know that knows nothing about."

Besides "Stories from the Getho", he wrote a novel "The Net" (Mreža), a deep prospection of causes and consequences, with rhytmical float of sentences, that reminds on ellegant step sound of a slow night walker along the pavement, and a book of short stories "Stuff, Nonsense and Other Gems" ( Trice, kučine i biseri), inspired by the small events from everydayly life.

In Aprile 17th 2015. he bacame a member of a literrare club "Ivo Andrić", Zemun. His short story "The Lighthouse" ( Svetionik ), coused a senzation, among members and guests on cellebration of 25 years of club's establishment.
