Hans Peter Braendlin

Hans Peter Braendlin is originally from Basel, Switzerland, but has spent much of his life in the United States. After a career in chemistry he taught German language and literature and other courses in the Humanities, last at the Florida State University. Since his retirement from academe he has been writing drama and fiction as a third career (having published a play, a novella, a novel, and being at work on his third piece of fiction). Once an ardent skier and tennis player he now, together with his wife Bonnie (also a writer), watches skiing on TV and plays tennis on the Wii. They live in Tallahassee, Florida, but make annual visits to Austin, Texas (daughter Andrea Braendlin, a budding writer, with two dogs and five cats), to Los Angeles (daughter Nikki Braendlin, who wrote and directed the film, As High as the Sky), to Venice (the setting for his novel, Through a Venetian Looking Glass), and to Basel, where he has family and friends. Bonnie, Andrea, and Nikki occasionally make fun of him because he still cannot pronounce the "r" correctly but produces something guttural (Germanic) instead. He is a committed pipe smoker, to Bonnie's chagrin, though she is not reluctant to have a glass of single malt with him now and then.
