Her psychological thrillers about secrets, toxic relationships, and the hidden darkness within ordinary lives are known for their unreliable narrators, morally complex characters, and shocking twists. Writing as BARBARA HAVELOCKE, she also creates gothic historical fiction and dark feminist retellings. Her novel Estella’s Revenge (a dark feminist retelling of Great Expectations) was nominated for the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year Award.

Before becoming a novelist, she was a journalist, writing for and editing national newspapers and magazines, interviewing both victims of crime and its perpetrators — an experience that informs her psychological, character-driven thrillers.

She lives in Birmingham, UK, with her partner and their three rescue dogs.
