My writing genre is New Zealand historical fiction. I love finding an event that shaped our social history and really digging deeply into the subject to learn about the principal characters and how their lives changed during the event. In fact, the story is already written. I bring it to life for the current generation. It is a satisfying feeling to shine light on the past and to appreciate that the efforts of those before us enabled us to be where we are today.

A passion of mine is birding, and to this end, I have created many field checklists.

One of my goals is to complete a long-distance hike from the tip of New Zealand at Cape Reinga to the bottom of New Zealand at Bluff. I have completed the North Island and started on the South Island. It is so tough that every day seems to end in tears. However, having started, I will finish.

Other areas of interest are how we can live lighter on the planet. Environmentalism is close to my heart. I have tried to live more minimally over the last few years, and, to this end, I find that I am even more aware of my environmental footprint than ever before. As a science graduate, I am acutely aware of how fragile planet Earth is, and my message to all is that we must tread lightly, purchase goods ethically and treat everything in nature with awe.
