Charles Long

I was born in Philadelphia, PA, but my family moved to New York City when I was very young. My very early childhood happened in Manhattan. When I was perhaps five or six, we moved to Brooklyn, and I went to the Woodward School. After that, we moved to a little section of Brooklyn called Gerritsen Beach. There, I attended Marine Park Junior High School and Sheepshead Bay High School

After high school, I majored in Anthropology at Brooklyn College, earning my BA. From there, I went to the University of Wisconsin – Madison. I was very interested in studying monkeys in those days. When I had completed my master’s degree, I elected to go to seminary. In 1992, I became a pastor. Almost 26 years later, in 2018, I retired from pastoring to become a full-time writer and teacher.

I have always been an avid musician, playing a variety of instruments and singing at coffee houses and other venues. Today, I live in Richmond, VA. I particularly love the music of Bruce Cockburn and John Denver, the States of Colorado and Wisconsin, the New York Yankees, and rescued greyhounds.
