James J. Cusick is a software and systems professional with over 30 years of diverse experience in IT solutions development. James is currently an Independent IT Consultant and a Visiting Associate Researcher at Ritsumeikan University in Japan.
Previously he was Senior Director IT Strategy and Operations & Distinguished Engineer with Wolters Kluwer the global information services firm. He has led projects and applied research efforts in Software Engineering, ITIL based IT Operations, Cybersecurity, Process Engineering, Project Management, Applied Research, Systems Design, Testing, and Higher Education. Earlier James held various leadership and technical roles at Dell Professional Services, Lucent’s Bell Laboratories’ Software Technology Center, AT&T Labs, and AT&T Network Services.
James’ research work has focused on the development and incorporation of methods in software engineering, reliability engineering, performance engineering, ITIL applications, Cybersecurity and related practices as well as recent work on Innovation and Economics. Today James is the author of more than 100 papers and talks in these areas including a 2013 eBook on Software Engineering from Bentham Science Publishers and a 2018 collection of updated papers in these applied areas.
James also currently serves as a Board Trustee at the Henry George School of Social Science where he supports research and academic programs in applied Classical Economics. Formerly he held positions as Adjunct Assistant Professor at Columbia University’s Department of Computer Science and as an Instructor in Columbia’s Computer Technology and Applications Program where he taught Software Engineering. James is a graduate of both the University of California at Santa Barbara and of Columbia University in New York City. James is an IEEE Senior Member, an IEEE Computer Society Distinguished Contributor, and a current PMP (Project Management Professional).
