Born on October 18, 1960 in Canton, Ohio to a factory worker and a homemaker. Dan is the youngest of 4 boys. His father worked 43 years for the Hoover company as a punch press operator.
For years Dan watched his father leave for work every morning at 6:50 am. His father never missed work; he couldn't afford to, he had to support his family. Dan's mother was always working around the house. She cooked, she baked, she canned fruits and vegetables, she hung laundry out on the clothes lines and she ironed clothes, She kept Dan and his 3 older brothers in line at all times. Dan's parents taught him the value of hard work, discipline and responsibility.
After high school graduation Dan did not know what he was going to do. His friends went away to college to become engineers, accountants, journalists and other high professions. Dan enrolled in a local community college. He worked part-time, put himself through school and achieved his 2-year associate degree in business.
Dan's initial exposure to sales came in his first real job as he found himself going door to door selling accident and health insurance. He went from house to house and business to business. Each door knocked was a new experience. He did not know who was going to answer or how he would be received. He quickly learned there were many facets to sales. He realized if he was not effective at introducing himself he never even got the opportunity to present his product and service. For the next year Dan worked at honing his cold calling and presentation skills as he continued selling door to door.
His first and only exposure to sales did not leave a good impression on Dan. He decided he would pursue a new profession. He landed a job with the Timken Company as an Operations Release Clerk. He worked in the mail room sorting mail and delivering it to the many departments in the mill. While working for the Timken Company Dan went back to school and attended Walsh College where he earned his business management degree.
In 1984 Dan was married to his wife Valerie. They soon began to raise a family. Dan realized how important his career was and the need to provide for his young family. Dan soon found himself back in a sales career and pursuing it with drive and determination. Over the next 15 years Dan held various positions ranging from inside and outside sales, director of sales, vice president sales, and owner of his own company. It was during this period that Dan learned the sales craft.
In 2002 Dan formed Concept Services, Ltd. in the basement of his home. Concept Services is a new business development and lead generation company designed to prospect new sales opportunities for companies nationally and internationally. Today, Concept Services has grown to over 75 employees and has been growing at a rate of 38% per year for the past 4 years. It was his experience of forming and growing Concept Services that fostered his desire to write his first book, Time For Change.
Dan lives in Wadsworth, Ohio with his wife Valerie where they have been married for more than 30 years. They have have 3 children Jeff, Jen and Josh. Valerie is the CFO of Concept Services, Their 2 sons Jeff and Josh are active in the business while his daughter Jen is an elementary school teacher. When not working, Dan enjoys spending time with his family.
