Mary Hosmar

Mary Hosmar was born in the Netherlands and immigrated to Canada with her parents and three brother in the early 1950s. Her youth and teenage years were the usual; nothing spectacular or outstanding, except that she love young children and preferred to spend time with them. Story-telling became a way to connect both with the children she minded and those she later taught. Her teaching career spanned more than 40 years and covered all age levels from five-year olds to adults. In retirement, Mary decided to put that story-telling gift to use. Canadian history which she had brought to life for many of her students, became a favorite subject.

Her first book, A Matter of Conscience, deals with a little known but extremely important event in the political life of Canada. Her second book, Legacy, incorporates some Canadian history along with a reconstruction-era love story set in her husband's native town in the Netherlands.

It is Mary's dream that while continuing to write in the Canadian history genre, she will also be able to transform some of that history into children's picture books. Whichever way she goes next, rest assured, it will be Canadian content, whether that is historical, romance or picture books.
