Lynette Rees

Lynette Rees is an author known for her historical sagas which are often compared to the works of Dilly Court and Catherine Cookson. Her stories are mainly set in the mining communities of South Wales or London’s East End during the Victorian era but her upcoming series will cover WW1. She focuses on themes of resilience, family, and overcoming adversity, particularly within the context of workhouses and factory life. Her novels are celebrated for their emotional depth and feature characters facing challenging circumstances, such as poverty, loss, and social injustice. Lynette is also known for her love of local history and genealogy, which often informs her writing.

Lynette’s most recent works published by Boldwood Books are from The Workhouse Series, which includes The Winter Waif, The Workhouse Girl and The Cobbler’s Apprentice. September 2025 saw the release of The Pit Girl - a story of hardship set in Victorian Wales. This was followed by The Coal Miner's Wife in March 2026 - a tale of one woman's fight for freedom in a man's world. The next release, The Housemaids of Foxglove Hall, is due for publication in November of 2026. It's the first of a three-part series beginning in 1913 and culminating at the end of the war in 1918.

The most important thing to Lynette is her family and her stories illustrate this with their warm characters who often show a great deal of compassion for others and the plight they find themselves in.
