Christopher Hegan

I'm a New Zealander living in Bristol, England. I have lived an extremely interesting life so far, having travelled throughout Asia and Europe for several years at a time when my contemporaries were studying, starting careers and settling down to raise families. My curiosity has driven me to all manner of extreme experience, including being a prisoner in a Thai gaol, being shipwrecked in Indonesia, stowing away to America on a cargo ship, working on roofs in Switzerland and becoming a Bhuddist monk. Back in NZ at last I earned my living as a clown, stand-up comedian, writer and entertainment entrepreneur. I play Flamenco and ragtime guitar and can get by in a handful of languages. I have bits of four university degrees but have never graduated. (Not yet, anyway.)

I wrote The Musket Girl, a teenage historical novel set in 1847 in New Zealand, for my youngest daughter. I wrote Codename:Mongoose while living in Granada, Spain, where I became obsessed with the Alhambra and the Muslim civilisation of Al Andalus. I have walked the Camino de Santiago three times and hope to do so again soon.
