Don Puckridge was progressively a potential farmer in South Australia, a student, a PhD student in the UK, lecturer at the University of Adelaide, Australia, and then a research leader with the International Rice Research Institute with HQ in the Philippines. Based in Thailand for nearly sixteen years, his work coordinated research in deeply-flooded rice ecosystems with collaborative projects in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, India, Bangladesh and Myanmar. He was awarded a Gold Medal by the Government of Vietnam for 'Services to Agriculture.' His first book was 'The Burning of the Rice: Cambodia beyond the Khmer Rouge."
