Jim Valkenburg

For over thirty-five years, Jim Valkenburg taught courses across the curriculum at five colleges in four states before settling in Michigan. His eclectic pursuits have led to a rare perspective that drives his passion for writing. Each of his books offers a broad panorama of ideas and arguments relative to the issue at hand. While "Finding the Way" and the "Engaged Mind" focus on educational issues and offer suggestions about how people can learn, "A Change of Mind" offers a multi-disciplinary investigation of the impact of various technologies on the way people understand the world around them. "Dream Dance" offers a selection of poems written over a forty-year span. In 2012, he was awarded a CLADEA Fellowship for his work in academic support and developmental education. He was granted the Frevel-Barstow Award for Scholarly Achievement from Delta College in 2013.
