JOE DORAN has a live and let live attitude. He believes humans and sinners (which are one and the same) should have requisite humility, and not try to control or remake others, much less the entire human race.
He grew up on 70’s drive-in flicks, read tons of sci-fi and comics, is a Rifftrax and MST3K junkie, prefers decent erotica to Hollywood gore any day of the week, is a songwriter who plays guitar and a little piano, and had a blast in his college days as a bassist in a local 80’s new wave band.
Joe currently contributes to the Trends Journal, a leading forecasting magazine published by Gerald Celente. His work has also appeared in Wine Press News, King World News and elsewhere.
Joe has written regional business and human interest articles for the Hudson River View since 2018. Previously he published a regional politics focused newsletter, The Right Stuff.
In the 1990’s Joe covered sports for the Kingston Daily Freeman, and before that, he worked as a sports reporter for The Poughkeepsie Journal, and as a news reporter and broadcaster for 97.7 WJJB (98 Fame).
Joe is also a creative writer who has written movie scripts, stage plays and other works.
Most recently he produced The Fiddle Faddles Christmas Special, a retro-style animated holiday program.
His screenplay Shut-In Santas earned finalist in the 2020 Screenplay Festival (Sherman Oaks, CA), as well as STORYPROS semi-finalist (2019), and Quarter-Finalist in “Your Script Produced!” Season 2 (2020). His screenplay Need A Little Christmas was selected for the 2019 Great Lakes Christian Film Festival. It placed semi-finalist in STORYPROS screenplay competition (2018), quarter-finalist in the PAGE Awards (2018). A previous screenplay, Twice Loved, was optioned by actor John Ritter.
Joe’s radio plays have aired on Western Public Radio, the Armed Forces Radio Network in Europe, and have been performed by theatre groups across the country. As an actor, playwright and theatre producer, he worked with many companies and professionals.
A 1991 Vassar College Powerhouse Playwriting alumnus, Joe studied with Jon Robin Baitz, and went on to co-found two highly regarded regional theatre companies, High Window and Passionplace.
As a theatre director, Joe has worked with Pulitzer and Tony Award winning playwright/screenwriters Frank D. Gilroy (The Subject Was Roses) and David Rabe (Hurlyburly, The Firm, Streamers). He directed a production of Mr. Rabe’s unpublished play Cosmologies at the Julien J. Studley Theatre in New Paltz, NY, starring Michael C. Williams (The Blair Witch Project).
Joe produced and directed staged readings for the 1996 and 1997 Hudson Valley Film Festivals, featuring Dennis Farina, Charles Durning, Joanna Kerns, Chris Noth, Dan Lauria and others.
As an actor, Joe performed in many regional productions, including The Lisbon Traviata at the Egg in Albany, and Waiting For Godot at the International Festival of Cafe Theatre in Nancy, France. He also played Biff opposite Dominic Chianese (The Sopranos) as Willy Loman in Death Of A Salesman.
Joe has several children and lives with his long-time partner in the beautiful Hudson Valley region of NY.
