Jacqueline Burgin Painter

Born in Hot Springs, North Carolina, Jacqueline Painter grew up on the French Broad River. She has long championed the preservation of Madison County culture and historic properties, her own family settling before the county's formation.

A retired partner of Painter Construction Company, Jacqueline currently lives in Sylva, North Carolina.

She is the author of The Season of Dorland-Bell: History of an Appalachian Mission School, The German Invasion of Western North Carolina, An Appalachian Medley: Hot Springs & the Gentry Family and The Stackhouses of Appalachia: Even to Our Own Times. Her work also appears in Dr. Wm. S. Powell's Encyclopedia of North Carolina and Robert S. Brunk's May We All Remember Well, Vol II.

She is a three-time recipient of the "History Book" award from the North Carolina Society of Historians.
