Patrick Thyne

Patrick Thyne is a Marriage and Family Therapist in Pasadena, California. He and his wife, Becky, who is an attorney, have three children. Their daughter Shannon and her husband Chris are both physicians in San Francisco; they have two sons, Jesse and Joseph. Brendan lives with his partner Diana in nearby Sierra Madre. He too is a Marriage and Family Therapist; she is a social worker. They have a daughter, Iris. Their third child, Jesse, died in 2000 at age twenty-four in an auto accident in Guinea, West Africa, where he was a Peace Corps volunteer. His death transformed the lives of each of his family members and eventually inspired the writing of his memoir, The Awful Grace of God: A Memoir of Faith, Death and the Survival of Hope.
