Captain Joe EARL

Joe (Julian) Earl was born in Sheffield during an air-raid in 1941. He left home at the age of 14 to attend the Training Ship `Indefatigable` in Anglesey; after nearly two years there, he went to sea as a `Deck Boy in the Merchant navy. He later obtained hie Master`s certificate and commanded ten ships during his career, including five years as Captain of the `Bristol Steam` Navigation`s ship M.V.Apollo, He worked over 44 years at sea including time served on dredgers and nine years as a Tug Master working out of Avonmouth and Royal Portbury.
