Ms. Lois Jean Thomas

I was raised in a Mennonite family in Brown County, Indiana, near the tiny village of Beanblossom. Thus, my earliest influences were a combination of the Mennonite tradition and the local culture that grew up out of the hills and woods of Brown County.

I lived in Goshen, Indiana, for most of my adult life, where I raised my three children. For the past ten years, I have lived with my husband in Saint Joseph, Michigan, a lovely little town on the shores of Lake Michigan.

I earned a Bachelors degree in Social Work from Goshen College in 1985, followed by a Masters degree from Indiana University in 1986. I worked as a Clinical Social Worker for twenty-four years. Additionally, I earned a certificate in Therapeutic Massage from Kalamazoo Center for the Healing Arts in 1997, and completed training to become a Healing Touch Practitioner in 2006.

In shaping the characters in my novels, I draw from what I learned in my career about the nature of being human and the peculiarities of human emotions and behavior.

In 2010, I went through the most traumatic event of my life when I was struck by a car as a pedestrian. I sustained a brain injury in the accident, which created challenges that brought my professional career to an end. In spite of grief over what I’ve lost, the experience has been an opportunity for growth in other areas of my life. I have turned to writing as my primary creative outlet.

My vision has been affected by my injury, and I can write for only a limited amount of time each day. But that writing time has become special to me. My intention as an author is to write books that open the hearts of my readers and move them toward a deeper understanding of themselves and others.

In addition to my books published through CreateSpace, I have published three children's books:

Me And You--We Are Who? (The Sambodh Society, Inc., 2006)

All the Happiness There Is (The Sambodh Society, Inc., 2006)

Johnny and Kris (The Sambodh Society, Inc., 2013)
